Alright...Well, I suppose I never noticed this as much before, but it makes sense because facebook is so prevalent in my generation. But really people, is it necessary to put your entire love life on facebook?? I'm pretty sure Valentine's Day on facebook is comprised of 2 types of posts: the "Don't you wish you were me?" and the "Don't you feel sorry for me?/ How about you shower me with compliments?"
The first--Don't you wish you were me?--probably makes me the sickest. Is there a reason to post pictures of flowers that your boyfriend sent you?? Answer: NO, it's not. He's not original, especially when everyone else and their mother is posting pics of their flowers. I truly don't understand. I'm so happy for you that your boyfriend knows you so well/ is the greatest bf ever/ etc. Honestly, I'm happy for you, but posting pictures of the Walgreen's teddy bear or box of chocolates is just annoying. You're not unique--lots of people get food on Valentine's day...and your boyfriend is probably doing it because he 1. feels pressured by society to get you something, 2. is trying to get in your pants, or 3. both.
The second--Don't you feel sorry for me?/ How about you shower me with compliments?--is not only annoying, but sad. If I read another "Single's Awareness Day" status, I'm going to flip a disc. The most annoying...ugh. You need more than facebook comments if you aren't aware of yourself all other days of the year. And, why must you insist on using this day to spam my newsfeed with your saga about how no boys love you/ you're all alone/ this is the 20th year without a valentine/ etc??? UNNECESSARY. If you're feeling insecure, you should talk to someone in person, not rely on facebook to solve your problems.
This is why I'm proposing we don't respond to either type of message when we see them. We should let people know how great they are all year long! If we tell people when we like something about them, they will not have to fish for compliments on Valentine's day. And then, I won't have to be so annoyed :)
BAM!!! Problem solved.
