"Confessions" Pages

Let's discuss "Confessions" pages for a minute...

Someone at my school started one of these Facebook pages where students can anonymously post a secret and share it with the community. Sounds awesome, right? WRONG. It is dumb. Seriously, if I have to read about another massive shit someone has taken in an academic building or another random place people have had sex, I am going to lose it. This is insanity. Seriously, though, insanity. Want to know why I really am having trouble with this page? Because I really believe that I could solve 90% of the problems in less than 60 seconds.

Case in point:
My personal favorite posts are the "I'm actually a nice guy. People just think I'm a douche because I act like a dick and dress like a frat bro" posts. Hmmmm... let me think... maybe people think you're a dick because you are being one! Your secret should not be that you are actually nice. That's not a secret! If you're a douche bag, you're a douche bag, and you will be considered one until you stop acting like one. There. Bam! Problem solved.

Another common problem (which I suspect is one common to college campuses) is the "People think I'm a slut because I hook up with lots of guys at parties and often make the walk of shame, but I'm not a slut." Well, all I have to say is, "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a friggin duck... I'm going to call it a duck." Basically, stop being a slut and people won't think you are one. If it doesn't bother you, then go ahead, just don't catch anything. But yeah, if you act like a slut, I'm going to judge you. Just as being the slut is your right, judging you is mine. But I didn't judge you until you made that dumb-ass post.

I get that it's supposed to be a cathartic experience, and I agree that if it was like PostSecret, it would be awesome. The problem is that it's not like PostSecret. People have turned it into complaining about problems that could easily be solved. Ugh... this is ridiculous.

...end rant.
